 Egg Drop Experiment

A.) Deja Vasquez, 3rd period, September 12, 2013

B.) Initial design, material list, and procedure:

C.) Data:

1. Mass with of my structure with out the egg: 47.52 grams

2. Score calculation with the mass: 2000/47.52x5=210

3. The number of points and the grade obtained: 210 points and A.

4. Mass of my structure with the egg: 63.40 grams

D.) Results:

Test #1 - Height of the drop.  Did the egg break?  Explain results.
5ft. No, the egg did not break, it worked.

Test #2 - (higher height) - Height of the drop.  Did the egg break?  Explain results.
About 8ft. No the egg still did not break, my structure worked.

Final Test - (thrown in the air by Ms. Janik) - Did the egg break
*Include video or pictures of the test.
Yes, the egg did break, there was too many cotton balls in my Easter egg which made pressure against my egg.

E.) Post Lab Questions:

1. Explain your final design in 2-3 sentences, include materials.

In my final design I changed it completely from my initial design. I used straws, tape, Easter egg and 2 balls. I also used cotton balls. It worked fine i just used too many cotton balls which made my egg crack.

2. How was the design modified from your initial hypothesis to improve your results? (2-3 sentences)

In my initial hypothesis I believe it would've been better. I didn't have the supplies for it and I thought it was going to be too heavy anyway. So I improved it by adding straws instead of wood.

3. What was the purpose of having multiple test drops of your structure?

The purpose was to see if the egg would crack or not.

4. Explain why your structure did or did not make the egg break.

My structure did make the egg crack because it needed more support and i stuffed the Easter egg with too much cotton balls.

5. If you could change your design in any way, what would you have done differently?
I would have done the sponge experiment where you cut it in the middle for the egg to lay in between because that experiment seemed as if it worked out fine.
